For a really long time I wanted to make melt in mouth Tamil Nadu Bakery style Butter Biscuits. The shortbreads that I buy here usually during Christmas season reminds me of our biscuits. What is in a name right 🙂 When we mix the right amount of Flour+Butter+Sugar be it a biscuit or cookie or shortbread you cannot stop munching it 😝😁 I baked a slightly thicker version of the biscuits but using the same recipe you can roll the dough thinner and you can bake them like our regular Marie Biscuits. This recipe is adapted from the Youtube Channel BiggerBolderBaking
The amount of butter added is what makes the Biscuit delicious. Keep in mind that butter has to be cold. If you are looking for low calorie snack recipe then definitely this is not the one 😁 I have kept the flavor real simple. However you can add cinnamon powder, vanilla essence, cardamom powder or any of your preferred flavors while making the dough. The following measurement yields 16 Biscuits. If you roll the dough thinner you can make atleast 25 thin biscuits

- In a small mixie jar powder 1/2 cup of Sugar
- Take a wide bowl and add butter, powdered sugar, baking powder and salt to it
- Using your finger tips gently incorporate butter to the flour
- Keep repeating the process until you see crumbly flour like the picture below
- Now add 1/4 cup milk and slowly bring the flour+milk mixture together
- Add the remaining 1/4 cup milk slowly and form the dough
- Divide the dough into two portions
- Roll one portion of the dough based on your preferred thickness. Using a cookie cutter cut them into round shapes. There will be some leftover dough after shaping them
- Repeat the process until the dough is over and place all the discs on a baking tray
- I was running out of Baking Paper hence used Aluminium Foil
- Poke small holes in the biscuits using a toothpick
- Preheat the oven at 180c for 10 minutes
- Bake the biscuits at 180c for upto 16-18 minutes or until the biscuits turn golden brown color. The time varies depending on the oven you use & also the thickness of the biscuits
- If you have rolled the dough thinly and the biscuits are flat and then please bake them only for 12-13 minutes.
- Check inbetween to make sure you don't over bake the biscuits
- Let them cool down for sometime. The biscuits will become more crunchier when they cool down
- They are perfectly baked inside
- Delicious Wholewheat Butter Biscuits are ready to be served with Tea
