Every month during Ammavasai(no moonday) cooking with RawBanana is mandatory at home. So Amma prepares different recipes each time. For our school lunchbox she prepares it with chilli powder & other spices. You can check that fry recipe here.
This podimas is comparitively easier to make and the below version is without onion & garlic. We like it to eat this way. However if you prefer like adding them, you can saute some onion & garlic and then add grated raw banana to it. Do not the skip the lemon juice since it gives that much need zing to the vazhakkai/raw banana. Raw Banana is generally believed a gassy vegetable. Adding Hing,Ginger & Lemon juice will help to avoid the trouble.
This below recipe serves two. I used two medium sized raw bananas. Increase quantity accordingly. Coconut oil gives a nice flavor to the dish. That is my personal preference 🙂 As I always say please cutomize the ingredients according to your taste buds & how you/your family prefers it.

- 1/2 tsp Urad dal seeds
- 1/2 tsp Channa Dal

- Cut RawBanana into halves
- Peel the skin lightly. Leave some skin on the banana. This step ensures the banana doesnt become soggy even it is slightly overcooked. The skin will hold it together
- Boil water in a vessel and add banana pieces and let them cook for about 15-20 minutes in medium flame
- Remove from the boiling water. Though the color of the skin looks weird dont worry about it. Just peel off the skin
- Grate them and keep it aside
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seed, urad dal
- Now add chopped ginger & green chilli pieces. (If you are adding onions & garlic add them now)
- Sprinkle little water and wait until banana is completely cooked
- Turn off the heat and sprinkle coconut. Give it a mix
- Once the banana is slightly cooled down add lemon juice , coriander leaves and mix well
- I served it with Sambar,Rice & Rasam 🙂
