Falafels are usually prepared from Chickpeas. In simpler terms it is like our southindian paruppu vadai 😉 Instead of Channa Dal this one is made predominantly from Chickpeas. It is popular in Mediterranean cuisine. Have prepared different variations of Chickpea falafels but this is the first time I tried preparing Falafels with Red Kidney Beans and instead of deep frying I baked them in the oven. Great snack option for Adults and kids too if they are not choosy like mine 😝 Yesterday A took a bite of it and gave some weird expression but like always I shall keep trying 😬 She loves deep fried falafels though.
I used one can of Red Kidney Beans which was approximately 240grams. It yielded 14 medium sized Falafels. Have freezed some of them to use later this week..Am starting 30-Day blogging challenge like last year. However this time am focussing only on dinner recipes and posts. This is mainly to be accountable on what I eat for dinner, the time I eat and also the portion. Hope the dinner posts and ideas help you too

- In a Mixie or in a food processor add Beans, salt, spice powders, ginger garlic pieces
- Blend it until the beans are 3/4th mashed
- In a bowl add the mashed beans, chopped onions, flaxseed powder, plain flour, dried herbs and mix them all together
- At last add Bread Crumbs and Sesame Seeds
- Now divide the bean mash into small discs or balls
- Brush oil on top of the Falafels and line them on a baking tray
- Preheat oven to 180c for 10 minutes and bake these Falafels for 20 minutes. I turned on the Grill mode for one minute just to get that golden crunchy top on the Falafels
- Serve the Falafels with Dips of your choice. You can even use it along with chapathi and eat it as a wrap
- I arranged the salad leaves on a bowl with a teaspoon of Honey Mustard dressing, placed the Falafels, added some chopped onions&tomatoes, cucumber slices and topped it with a teaspoon of Yogurt. Since these falafels were baked they get dried out quickly unlike deep fried version. Adding yogurt as a dip helped in bringing the salad together
- Dinner was so filling 🙂

1. This one is deep fried version of Falafel. I have added some Boiled Beetroot along with Chickpeas and made this. I shall upload Chickpea falafel recipe as a separate post soon. Since I don't have step by step picture I uploaded few snapshots for your reference
2. I followed a similar procedure like mentioned above and instead of Kidney Beans I used Boiled Chickpeas 😊
