The weather in Limerick is rainy, cold & gloomy on most of the days. The long weekend was worse and the whole family fell sick 🙁 I made regular rasam almost everyday with lots of Black Pepper and Jeera. I truely missed cooking with fresh Omavalli leaves. I swear by Omavalli and whenever little A was sick as a baby I used to give 2-3 drops of chaaru (சாரு) and her cold, cough, runny nose gets cured within a day or two. For adults you can make this Omavalli rasam and drink as it is as a soup or it can be eaten with Rice too. If you already have fresh homemade rasam powder you can use that too. Or else dry roast the ingredients mentioned below for making Rasam.
My Amma used to make Kashayam by boiling the homegrown Omavalli, Tulasi,Aadadhodai leaves along with Coriander seeds,Turmeric,Pepper in water. Then she would filter the liquid, mix it with little bit of honey and would use to give it to us😋😋 Sigh I am one of those rare species that loves Kashayam 😅😅

How to give Omavalli for babies :

- Within a minute they will shrink in size
- Remove it from pan, squeeze the juice
- You can add few drops of breastmilk and give them in a spoon
- Alternatively you can mix it with few drops of formula too
- There will be loose stools one or two times after giving the saaru. Don't worry they will be alright soon
- For older kids just prepare the rasam and mix it with rice and give them as lunch or dinner.
