Upma is a common breakfast in SouthIndia(especially Rava upma and Semia upma). Though most people hate the moment we say ‘Upma’, I have grown up in a family of Upma lovers 😅😬 From Puli Upma, Aval Upma, Samba Ravai Upma Amma would make all varieties & variations with whatever ingredients that are available at home. They will be either Dosa-fied or Upma-fied 😂 Amma would never use the readymade masala that comes with Maggi packet and she will prepare it like a regular Rava upma. And ofcourse Oats was not spared too.Oats combined with lots of veggies would make the breakfast even more healthier. Such a filling and nutritious breakfast too. You don’t have to have any specific sidedish for this but a coconut chutney or a simple pickle + yogurt combo would go well.

- Heat oil in the frying pan and add mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal, curry leaves
- Let it splutter
- Add ginger pieces, green chilli and bowl of the chopped vegetables
- Saute it for 3-4 minutes. Then add salt, turmeric powder, asafetodia, kashmiri red chilli powder and again saute them in low heat until the veggies get roasted well.
- Pour 1.5 cups water and close the pan. Wait for couple of minutes until the vegetables are 3/4 th cooked. I like my veggies to be little crunchy. If u want u can wait until they all become soft
- Then add 1 cup Oats and half cup of water to the pan and keep stirring. Lumps are not formed as in other upmas. However adding too much of water will ruin the taste of Oats. Keep an eye on the amount of water being added. It may vary depending on the variety of the Oats you use.
- Cover the pan and lower the gas flame. After 5 minutes the Oats would have been cooked completely. Garnish wiyh coriander leaves
- Healthy and tasty Oats upma is ready to be served with your favourite sides.
- You may also use green chillies instead of chilli powder, red chillies
