On days when I don’t have Dosai batter in stock I quickly prepare some Instant Dosai varities for breakfast or dinner. Being a Sunday yesterday I was too lazy to knead Chapthi Dough and make Chapathis and also I had just finished griding my plain Dosai batter. Prepared this Instant Oats Ragi Flour Oothapam for our dinner and it turned out so good. I have made Besan Cheela many times before. You can call this Oats Ragi Chilla/Oats Cheela too. Instead of making it thin like a crepe I added some grated veggies & frozen peas to make the thick Oothapam more colorful & healthy. The little one had plain oothapam and chutney while I had mix vegetable Oothapam with leftover Vethakuzhambu from our lunch. You can serve this with Chutney or Sambar.
Alternatively you can also serve this like a wrap by spreading a chutney or pesto, add some veggies and salad. For inspiration check my Pesarettu Wrap
I have tried making Besan Cheela, Ragi Rava Roast and various other Instant Dosai varieties but this is the first time I tried combining Oats, Ragi Flour & Flax Seed Powder together. Since it requires no fermentation you can make this for breakfast too. Just to bind all the flours together I added some Greek Yogurt. If you are using regular yogurt drain water from it and then add the creamy part.

- Grind a cup of Oats in a dry mixie jar and transfer the Oat flour to a bowl
- Add Ragi Flour, Flax Seed Powder and Yogurt

- In a pan saute the onions, grated carrot, capsicum with a pinch of salt, turmeric and other spice powders
- Mix the veggies to the batter. Add Frozen peas and remaining salt
- The batter might look slightly thicker after 10 minutes. You can add little water and mix it well
- We are not going to pour the batter like we do for regular dosai. Instead we will be spreading the batter using the back side of a spoon or ladle
- Heat Dosai Tawa or a Pan and add the batter
- Spread it like a thick circular Oothapam
- Drizzle oil on sides and close the pan for a minute
- Once the side is cooked flip the Oothapam and let it get cooked on the other side for 1 minute
- Delicious Instant Oats Ragi oothapam is ready to be served
- You can serve it with Chutney or Sambar too based on your preference
