Don’t know if Quinoa is superfood or not but I can definitely say from my personal experience that I eat less & portion control was much easier when replacing Rice with Quinoa.As the internet suggests Quinoa is packed with nutrients, it is gluten-free too.
Like I mentioned earlier in my IG posts I have been using Brown Rice,Quinoa,Couscous,Bulgur Wheat as alternate options to White Rice.Eating the same Rice everyday can be boring.Also Quinoa takes slightly lesser time to cook, you can precook few portions of Quinoa, refrigerate and can quickly put together a lunchbox recipe on weekdays.Be it Quinoa or Couscous or any grain/seeds for that matter I make SouthIndian Recipes with them
Instructions
- Wash Quinoa thoroughly.You can place them in a fine mesh colander
- Boil 2 cups of water in kettle and add it to Quinoa
- I felt that adding boiled water to Quinoa speeds up the cooking process.If you don't have kettle then boil water in a vessel first. Once it comes to rolling boil add Quinoa
- Turn the flame to medium
- Add a tsp of Oil and a tiny pinch of salt. Let it get cooked in boiling water
- After approximately 10-12 minutes Quinoa looks like this
- You might notice that Quinoa is 3/4 th cooked and can see Quinoa soaking all the water
- Remove excess water at this stage
- Turn off the stove and cover the vessel for 10 minutes
- Then use a fork to fluff the Quinoa up and once it is cooled down completely you can mix it with veggies or serve it as it is along with Daal/Saambar
- I served Quinoa with some Daal and Paneer sticks

What kind of quinoa are you using? I get confused at white, tri color and all other quinoa varieties. Help me pick please!
Hi Aparna I have tried both plain and tricolour..I follow the same instructions 🙂 It turns out good..The one mentioned in the post is white.. Shall upload pics of tricolour next time when I buy it..
So if you are using it in a pulav or variety rice recipe, how would you go about it? Cook quinoa separately and add it or can we do it all in one pot? Your tomato quinoa was 👌👌

Hi Seetha, yes I prepare the base mix first like how we usually make for variety rice lemon,tomato,fried rice etc and then add Quinoa.. Shall add Tomato Quinoa recipe soon☺️
