On days when I run out of regular Idli/Dosai batter I keep experimenting with instant dosai/sweet or savory pancakes recipes. Especially after Aadhu all these instant recipes comes handy for her evening snack routine. It is filling and healthier too. You can quickly prepare a coconut chutney or serve them with Idli Podi (Gunpowder)
This recipe is similar to our Besan ka Cheela only difference here is I used Green gram flour instead of the regular Gram flour (கடலை மாவு) Since the combination of flours is more or less similar to that of traditional Andhra Pesarettu I have added only onions, ginger to the batter. I used Chilli Powder instead of green chillies since I did not want my daughter to accidentally bite it 😂😂😂
If you are in a lowcarb diet you can prepare this savory pancake serve it along with a vegetable curry or can even prepare a simple Wrap filled with veggies, chutney and a salad.

- Mix the flours together with yogurt, salt and by slowly adding water prepare a batter
- Rest the batter for 10-15 minutes. This step is totally optional. I feel resting the batter helps in flipping the dosa easily and it doesn't get stuck in the Tawa
- Heat a tsp oil in the Dosa Tawa
- Add onions, curry leaves, hing. Saute until onions become mild pink in color
- Add salt, chilli powder to the batter
- Add the sauteed onions
- Mix everything together and start making the Cheelas/Dosais
- Once the side is cooked, flip it over to other
- After a minute or two remove the cheela from tawa and serve it with Chutney of your choice
