There are different types of Broken Wheat available in grocery stores. The word ‘Fine’ will be mentioned in the pack. This variety takes less time to cook and it is the best for making porridges. I use Double Horse brand’s Samba Ravai. I gave this porridge to AAdhu only from her 10th month. Broken Wheat takes time to digest. So please check if your baby likes it & as well doesn’t have any tummy related difficulties after feeding this porridge.
The following measurement yields 1 bowl full of porridge as shown in the picture below. Increase quantity according to your baby’s appetite and needs

- 3 tbsp Broken Wheat
- 1/2 tsp Cardamom Powder
- 1/2 tsp ghee
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 tsp jaggery optional

Instructions
- Heat 1/2 tsp ghee in a pan and add broken wheat
- Saute until rava turns golden brown. Keep it aside
- In the same pan add Water and once it starts rolling, add broken wheat
- Simmer the flame and keep stirring
- Broken wheat absorbs water and it gets cooked within approximately 5 minutes
- Add milk, cardamom powder and give it a stir
- If you are adding jaggery add it now
- Mix everything well and let the porridge boil for about 2-3 minutes
- Turn off flame and serve the porridge to baby
