Sometimes? or most of the times 😉 we Tamilians like to stuff ourselves with food. We are very emotionally attached to food I would say. Especially during festival times each and every household will have their own menu comprising all their family members’ favorite food items. Deepavali and Pongal are the two most important festivals which we all celebrate in an elaborate manner. Though we make and stock a variety of fried savory snacks on Deepavali, Bajji is a must have dish on that day 🙂
The most common veggies used for preparing bajji are onion, plantain(வாழக்காய்), potato, eggplant, Mirchi. Even if you don’t have ready made store bought bajji mix you can make it at home with simple ingredients. All you need is just 10 minutes to prep the batter.
Notes : In case if you are concerned about using Baking soda, you can try using curd/yogurt.I have seen people adding a bit of yogurt to the batter. Personally I haven’t tried that option.
