Sesame Seeds has numerous health benefits. We now see them in granola bars, smoothies, as Tahini paste in Hummus and in all other fancy ways. Growing up my three favorite ways to eat the Sesame seeds in kalandha sadham (recipe mentioned below), as a filling in Kozhukattai & ofcourse Sesame Laddu/எள்ளுருண்டை.During our recent vacation to India we performed Sumangali Prarthanai poojai at home. My little one loved Sesame Laddus prepared during that occasion. Shall add the recipe of the laddu soon
During Kaanum Pongal it is a custom in many households in TamilNadu to prepare Variety Rice/கலந்த சாதம்.. Ellu Sadham aka Rice prepared with Black or White Sesame seeds is a must 🙂 There are many ways in which you could prepare this. The below version is how my Amma makes it. It is believed that Sesame Seeds generate heat in our body and it is better to consume them in limited quntity. It is also for this reason I believe she adds a teaspoon of Fenugreek Seeds & some Grated Coconut along with Sesame seeds for the spice mix. This Sesame Seed spice mix can be stored in refrigerator for upto a week.
The below recipe serves two people. The spice mix can be directly eaten along with Idli or Dosai too 🙂 I have used both black and white sesame seeds to prepare the rice. You can use whichever seed you have at home
