Instructions
Soak toor dal and channa dal together for atleast 30 minutes
-
Grind dal, salt, red chilli & hing to a coarse mixture. Add only 1 tablespoon water while grinding and not more than that
In a pressure cooker steam the dal mixture for 10 minutes. I used perforated steam plate for this
Alternatively you could use normal idli plates as well
Heat oil in a non-stick pan and add the steamed dal mixture. Saute it for 2-3 minutes and remove it from pan
In the same pan heat remaining oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal seeds, curry leaves. Let them splutter
Add the grated brussel sprouts, salt and turmeric. Saute for a minute, sprinkle some water and close the pan
Brussel sprouts will get cooked in approximately 10 minutes
Now add the dal mixture to the pan, adjust salt and let the whole paruppusili gets cooked for 5 minutes
Remove from pan and serve usili as a side dish in your South Indian lunch
