Instructions
Wash and soak the lentils in warm water for at least 1 hour
Pressure cook the lentils with 3 cups of water, a pinch of salt for up to 4 whistles at medium
This will take approximately about 10-12 minutes
In the mean time finely chop the onions and tomatoes
Heat oil in a sauce pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, green chilli and curry leaves

Add chopped ginger+garlic, onions and tomatoes. Sautxe9 for a minute
Later add turmeric and the spice powders one by one. Sautx for 5 minutes on a low flame.
Add around 1/2 cup of water and wait until the tomatoes are cooked through
At this stage add the pressure cooked Brown Lentils
Keep on stirring until the lentils are mixed completely with onion tomato masala
Simmer the flame, add 1 cup water necessary and adjust salt
Cover and let the mixture get cooked for up to 7-8 minutes
Turn off the flame. Garnish the Brown Lentil dal with coriander leaves
Serve this tangy and tasty warm dal along with a bowl of Rice
