This dosa is made with a watery rice batter. Unline the usual Dosa batter this is far more light and hence the dosas will be wafer thin. This is one of the popular delicacies of Karnataka region. You don’t need much time to prep for neer dosa and fermentation is not mandatory too. I prepared a spicy tomato chutney to go with this dosa.
Ingredients for Dosa :
- Raw White Rice (பச்சைஅரிசி) – 2 cups
- Fresh grated Coconut – 1/2 cup
- Salt – 1/2 tsp
- Water – 2 cups
- Oil – 4 tbsp.
Method of Preparation :
1.Soak rice in water for 2-3 hours.
2.I used Sona Masoori Rice. However you can use Ponni Rice or any other rice variety too.
3.Drain water completely. Grind it along with coconut to a smooth batter.
4.The consistency of the batter should be very thin and watery like ‘Rava Dosai’ batter.
5.Add salt after grinding.
6.For making perfect lacy Neer dosa the temperature of the Dosa Tawa is really important.
7.Heat and season the tawa with little oil.
8.Pour the batter on tawa and drizzle some oil on the sides.
9.Close tawa with a lid for a minute.
10.Once it is cooked remove from pan and serve them hot.
11.The flavor for the dosa mainly comes from rice coconut. Hence make sure you use fresh coconut and good quality rice.
Tomato Chutney :
1.Grind 4 Tomatoes,1 onion, 2 red chillies 4 garlic pod together.
2.Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, urad dal seeds, curry leaves.
3.Transfer the tomato paste into pan.
4.Add salt and a pinch of sugar.
5.Let it reduce for about 10-15 minutes.
6.Simple and easy tomato chutney is ready to be served with Neer Dosa. Kindly adjust spice according to your taste.
