When you order mini meals in any restaurants like Saravana Bhavan , A2B the Sambar Rice will be of smooth, melt in mouth texture. Unfortunately the quantity they provide is very less and most of it is occupied by Shallots & Drumstick 😉 Thats a different story altogether We can achieve the same taste when we prepare at home as well. This is different from Karnataka’s BisiBele Bath. Sambar Sadham recipe is inspired from my mother-in-law. Our extended family is a big one and everytime during a family function or gettogether we have atleast 20-25 members gathering at her…

Masoor Dal Tadka & Stuffed Capsicum
July 3, 2016Weekends we mostly prefer hearty lunches. Food is the perfect way to unwind a stressful week. Yesterday we went to purchase groceries and came back home at around 11:00am..Both of us were damn hungry and I thought of putting together a quick meal yet delicious one. I zeroed in on Daal + Chawal (Rice with lentils) and for sides i initially planned a simple potato fry. The fresh capsicum I picked from the market was starring right into my eyes A simple potato fry became stuffed capsicum and to add some deliciousness (read calories) sprinkled cheddar cheese at the…

Mushroom Biryani
June 8, 2016This is an instant biryani version. With less spices & ingredients the biryani can be prepared within 25 minutes. Mushrooms need very less time to get cooked and hence this recipe comes handy on busy weekdays. I used button mushrooms. Also I added only onion, tomato along with mushrooms. Didn’t want to add too much of veggies. I truely wanted mushroom to be the hero of this dish. You can serve this biryani with raita or any other gravy of your choice. I prepared strawberry raita. It tasted delicious. The tangy, sour raita with spicy biryani made an awesome combo. Do try…

Barnyard Millet/Kudhiraivali Sambar Sadham
April 21, 2016Sambar Rice is like the ‘kichdi’ of SouthIndia. Perfect comfort food to have during elaborate weekend lunch or sometimes during dinner too. This recipe is based on Tamil Nadu style of cooking. It is prepared generally from Rice and Toor Dal. In recent days due to various health reasons people are trying to switch from White Rice to millets for day to day cooking. This sambar sadham recipe is made using Barnyard Millet(Kuthiraivali in Tamil) & Masoor Dal. Also this is the best way to sneak in the vegetables and even fuzzy eaters will love this dish. The millet version tastes…

Happy Holi dear readers.
Dhoodh Peda (Milk Peda) is an Indian fudge sweet that is prepared during festivals and celebrations. During my first family trip to Shirdi, I tasted these dhoodh pedas for the first time and was totally mindblown. So flavorful, melt in mouth texture and I couldn’t stop myself from eating it. My aunt who has lived in Pune, told me that Peda/Pedha was so popular there and her neighbours used to distribute it on all important occasions and during joyous moments in their family. This is the reason why I love our Indian Food so much. Each and every recipe has a story behind it. Each and every region has unique food culture and it is always exciting to know more about them. I so wanted to try the traditional elaborate peda recipe sometime. Let see 🙂
On this occasion of Holi, sharing the instant version using Milk Powder (instead of Khoya) and condensed milk. The addition of dark cocoa powder gives a beautiful brown color, chocolate flavor to the pedas. The following measurement serves 25 small sized peda. Adjust the measurements according to your need. If you try this version do let me know your feedback.
